The Hague Film Festival

Since its inception eight years ago as a platform for young filmmakers on YouTube and social media, The Hague Film Festival (THFF) has undergone a remarkable transformation. Initially created to support youthful filmmakers, this modest initiative quickly captured the attention of established professionals in the film industry, leading to its evolution into The Hague Film Awards and gaining formal recognition.

In its early years, hosted by FilmHuis Den Haag and Theater aan het Spui, the festival experienced steady growth and development. By 2020, recognizing the project’s expansion into a full-fledged film festival, The Hague Film Awards was rebranded as The Hague Film Festival. That year, in collaboration with PIP Den Haag, we organised the first edition of THFF and the third edition of The Hague Film Awards.

Over the subsequent years, we partnered with various organisations that recognized the festival’s value and potential. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, we successfully collaborated with the Louwman Museum and Inholland in 2021, resulting in a festival with over 450 submissions and reaching more than 500 young people. In 2022, the Koninklijke Schouwburg invited us to host the third edition of THFF at their venue, attracting over 500 submissions and an audience of approximately 600 participants. Most recently, THFF 2023 was once again held at the Louwman Museum, featuring 550 submissions and drawing more than 700 attendees.

THFF is distinguished by its commitment to fostering cultural participation among young people in the fields of film and media. The festival provides emerging creators with a platform and a development pathway to support their professional growth. Additionally, THFF encourages connections between new and established filmmakers, resulting in numerous new collaborations. Following our recent successful edition of THFF at the Louwman Museum, several parties have expressed interest in collaborating for the 2024 edition. Inholland has already become an official partner, with students from the Creative Business program involved in the promotion and organisation of this project.

The Louwman Museum, Theater De Nieuwe Regentes, Theater de Vaillant, and Prins 27 have all shown interest in hosting the event. THFF continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of young people. Research indicates a strong demand for festivals like THFF, where young individuals can produce and present their own work. THFF offers a platform for youth to express their emotions through film, vlogs, animations, and new media. Join us in celebrating the creativity and innovation of young filmmakers at The Hague Film Festival, as we continue to support and inspire the next generation of storytellers
